That’s great Tomasz, I think Europe will taste these before the US this time. I sent seeds of the Gondwanas to Victory Seeds in the US a year ago but they are only growing then this season and after that will offer them for sale to the public there for 2024 season. The US was first to taste the Dwarf Tomato Project varieties so Europe can be first with these 😁
Since you are a breeder I will tell you about how this affects breeding with both the dwarfs of the Dwarf Tomato P reject and of my Gondwana Series. All of these varieties are pledged and released under the Open Source Seed Initiative (OSSI) at osseeds.org which means they are shared with this info, and you will find I included the OSSI pledge in your letter. You are of course welcome to breed with these varieties, to sell them if you wish, to share them freely. If you breed with them you need to also pledge the new varieties you create. It is easy to do, and just requires you to fill out an application online at the OSSI website and I am happy to help!
Here is the pledge and I also asked google to translate it :
Open Source Seed Initiative (OSSI) Pledge: “You have the freedom to use these OSSI-Pledged seeds in any way you choose. In return, you pledge not to restrict others’ use of these seeds or their derivatives by patents or other means, and to include this pledge with any transfer of these seeds or their derivatives.”
“Masz swobodę korzystania z nasion obiecanych przez OSSI w dowolny sposób. W zamian zobowiązujesz się nie ograniczać innych osób w korzystaniu z tych nasion lub ich pochodnych za pomocą patentów lub innych środków oraz dołączać to zobowiązanie do każdego transferu tych nasion lub ich pochodnych.“
Yes it means a bit of extra work so I know of one person who decided not to breed with them, but he also was breeding a type which doesn’t produce seeds and he intended to apply “plant breeders rights” to his new creation so for him this makes it more difficult.
Please take a look at the OSSI website which I hope you can translate so you can read it in Polish if you prefer.
Best wishes
